Vitalik Buterin Achieves Billionaire Rank Again with ETH Above $4K

Vitalik Buterin

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has once again joined the ranks of crypto billionaires, following Ethereum’s climb past the $4,000 mark—a level last reached in December 2024. This achievement reflects a wave of renewed optimism and growing institutional interest in ETH.

On-Chain Wealth Exceeds $1 Billion

Data from blockchain analytics shows that Buterin currently holds about 240,042 ETH on-chain, giving his portfolio an estimated value of $1.04 billion. In addition, he possesses smaller positions in tokens such as AETHWETH, WHITE, MOODENG, and WETH.

ETH Pushes Beyond $4K Toward Potential Records

Over the weekend, ETH surged 6.38%, peaking at $4,332 before stabilizing near $4,244. Market analysts are eyeing a potential retest of Ethereum’s all-time high of $4,878, with some predicting the milestone could be reached within days.

Institutional Inflows Drive Momentum

Ethereum-focused exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have seen robust demand, pulling in $461 million in inflows—surpassing Bitcoin’s $404 million. In the past five trading sessions alone, U.S. spot Ether ETFs recorded $326.6 million in net inflows, compared to $253.2 million for Bitcoin ETFs, underscoring ETH’s growing appeal to institutional investors.

Buterin’s Warning on Treasury Leverage

Despite the market’s bullish tone, Buterin has voiced concerns over the risks posed by heavily leveraged ETH treasuries in corporate holdings. He cautions that such overextension could “evolve into an overleveraged game,” potentially threatening long-term market health.

BitMine Expands as Largest ETH Treasury Holder

BitMine Immersion Technologies, led by Tom Lee, has added 208,137 ETH to its reserves, increasing its total holdings to over 833,000 ETH—valued at more than $3 billion—cementing its position as the world’s largest Ethereum treasury holder.

Conclusion

Ethereum’s rally beyond $4,000 has reignited market excitement, boosting both speculative and institutional engagement. Buterin’s return to billionaire status marks a symbolic milestone in this uptrend, though his warnings serve as a reminder that sustainability matters as much as momentum.
