Liverpool has emerged as the UK’s top city for cryptocurrency engagement. According to a recent digital behavior survey conducted by broadband provider Openreach, 13% of Liverpudlians actively invest in Bitcoin and follow the stock market — the highest proportion in the country.
City-Wise Digital Preferences Across the UK
The report also highlighted unique online habits across other major UK cities:
- London leads in dating app usage, with 1 in 4 residents using them multiple times weekly — far surpassing the national average of 4%.
- Manchester takes the top spot for Instagram activity.
- Sheffield dominates both TikTok use and music streaming, with 30% spending over five hours online daily — nearly triple the rate of Brighton.
- Leeds shows strong loyalty to Facebook, with 43% of residents using it intensively.
A Nation Deep in the Digital World
On average, Britons spend 3.5 hours a day online, with 1 in 5 exceeding five hours. Night-time browsing is also prevalent: 64% of users go online between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., while 19% prefer YouTube during these hours.
Digital Overload and the Need to Unplug
Despite the growing reliance on the internet, many users are beginning to reflect on their digital habits.
- 43% feel they waste time online.
- 37% experience doom-scrolling regularly.
- 33% believe unplugging more often would lead to a calmer mind.
